CAPE CORAL, Fla. Two children died Monday night after drowning in a swimming pool, the Cape Coral Police Department said.
Eric Merchant Sr. went upstairs to use the bathroom at about 10:17 p.m., and when he returned, he saw his children motionless in the pool outside an apartment building on the 1000 block of Southwest 47th Terrace, a police report said.
Shortly after, another man ran out of the apartment carrying another child, the police report said. The man believed the girl was still breathing and he attempted to perform CPR.
Both children, a male and female, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names and ages were not immediately released.
The Department of Children and Families was contacted and the investigation is still ongoing.
