CAPE CORAL, Fla. Joe Coviello and Michael Hollow will square off to be the next mayor of Cape Coral.

Both candidates got the highest percentages of votes in Tuesday’s primary election.

Michael Hollow

Coviello, a business consultant, and Hollow, a real estate business owner and former deputy, are vying for the seat currently held by Marni Sawicki.

Sawicki announced in March she wouldn’t seek re-election.

Hollow’s goal is to diversify the city’s revenue and to give Cape Coral residents a voice he believes has been unheard under the current council.

“We wanna be able to be that voice,” Hollow said. “Make it where residents are proud of calling Cape Coral home again.”

Coviello, who walked away with 31 percent of the votes, wants to cut taxes and improve government efficiency.

“The leadership that I will bring forward to council will help that move forward in a positive fashion,” Coviello said.

Cape Coral’s general election will be held on Nov. 7.
