SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. Hurricane Irma victims have a new place to turn for help.
FEMA opened a disaster recovery center Friday along Alico Road to provide information about assistance programs and give residents a forum for their questions.
It’ll be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week at the Florida Gulf Coast University Emergent Technologies Institute on 16301 Innovation Lane.
The center is designed as a resource — it’s not necessary to go there to receive FEMA aid. For those who do visit, registration with FEMA is strongly recommended.
Southwest Florida homeowners, renters and business owners can register at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or via the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362, a phone line staffed 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week until further notice, according to the agency.
FEMA is still encouraging Irma victims to use its website as the primary means to assistance.
