FORT MYERS, Fla. Florida Gulf Coast University hosted the annual Congressional Military Academy Day Saturday morning.
The event offered Southwest Florida students an opportunity to learn more about the nation’s service academies.
Liasons from the Military, Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine and the Coast Guard academies discussed the application process, academy life and career opportunities within the various military branches with students.
Acceptance into the academies is highly competitive, with nominations coming from members of Congress.
“This is a great day to introduce the academy process to our community to see that people can understand the admissions process of the academies, what they do and why they are so important to our country,” Rep. Francis Rooney said.
The deadline to submit an application is Sept. 27.
Once the nominations are made, each academy selects which students will receive an appointment to attend.
