FORT MYERS, Fla. A 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle Monday morning outside Cypress Lake Middle School, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The child was taken to HealthPark Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the FHP.
The incident occurred just before 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Cypress Lake Drive and Panther Lane, according to the FHP.
Fort Myers resident Marcy Ann Mamae, 65, was stopped at a red light at the intersection in a Kia Rio as the child pressed the button and proceeded through the crosswalk, State troopers said. As the light turned green, she attempted to make a left hand turn but entered into the path of the child.
Mamae is facing a charge of failing to use care towards a pedestrian, according to State troopers.
