FORT MYERS, Fla. — Gov. Rick Scott’s “Fighting for Florida’s Future” tax cut tour made a stop Friday at Storm Smart, a local hurricane shutter company.

The governor proposed $618 million in tax cuts for the 2017-18 budget, with the largest portion coming from the sales tax on commercial leases. Florida is the only state that imposes such a tax.

“So many of our small businesses have to lease their space because they don’t have the capital to be able to buy their buildings. So they lease their space and have to pay a sales tax on that. It’s completely unfair,” Scott said.

Scott is also proposing four sales tax holidays:

  • Back-to-school (10 days)
  • Hurricane supplies (Nine days)
  • Tax break for veterans (Three days)
  • Camping and fishing supplies
