Drunk man arrested after threatening Lee County deputies with gun

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — A 66-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly threatening deputies with a gun while intoxicated, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to Gulfshore Grill around 3 a.m. where Thomas Mason, of 16299 San Carlos Boulevard, was drinking and causing a disturbance.

But Mason wouldn’t cooperate.

When deputies offered to drive Mason home, he declined, and asked to go to his car to retrieve his phone, deputies said.

Instead, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at them.

Mason then yelled at the deputies, asking why they were doing this to him, according to police reports.

However, the deputy closest to Mason was able to disarm and arrest him in front of a crowded parking lot.

Mason is in custody facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly intoxication.

No bond has been set.
